Brand story

Borgoe

Suriname's signature rum family

The Name 'Borgoe'

The name Borgoe is rooted in Surinamese history and carries deep cultural significance. Borgoe Gold was introduced in 1982 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Mariënburg sugar estate (founded 1882) in the Commewijne district — the very birthplace of Surinamese rum production.

For Surinamers, Borgoe is far more than a spirit — it is a household name woven into daily life and celebration. The iconic "Borgoe-Cola" is Suriname's most beloved mixed drink. Borgoe rum is also a key ingredient in traditional desserts like Bojo (cassava and coconut cake) and festive holiday cakes, adding warmth and depth to cherished recipes passed down through generations.

The brand also holds a special place among the Surinamese diaspora, particularly in the Netherlands, where it serves as a taste of home and a symbol of cultural pride. From family gatherings and birthdays to national celebrations, Borgoe is at the heart of Surinamese togetherness.

From Poker Rum's recognition in Geneva to the Borgoe line today — decades of blending craft in every bottle.
